Hamlet belongs to the Elizabethan Era, also known as the Shakespearean Era. It was written around the final years of Queen Elizabeth I’s reign. There was uncertainty of who would succeed her, which historically parallels how Shakespeare’s Hamlet focuses on transfers of power and the uncertainties and betrayals that can occur because of it.
